Jail Ministry

Description

Each Sunday at the Monroe County Jail facilities in Henrietta and Downtown, Catholic men and women inmates gather to celebrate Mass or a Communion service. The Liturgies are organized on behalf of the Diocese by Deacon Bill Baker and are lead by a team of local Clergy, Religious and lay men and women. Each site has separate men's and women's liturgies. Bishop Clark joins the Jail ministry team each Christmas morning with his annual visit and mass at the Downtown jail.

The Jail ministry team is permitted to bring in paperback religious reading materials to the inmates. Over the past several years St. Ambrose Church has collected thousands of Christian and Catholic periodicals, Bibles, and greeting cards for the team. The Jail population is very transient and new faces arrive each week in need of the reading materials that help us all to pray and grow in Spirit and Wisdom.

How Can I Get
More Involved?

Please help by dropping current or back issues of periodicals, Bibles, books and cards you receive in the wicker baskets at each entrance to the Church. The Jail ministry team will sort the materials and ensure that any mailing labels are removed and that your donation gets into the hands of a Jail inmate.

If you would like to learn more about direct roles available on the Jail ministry team contact Kevin Marren.
